DURBAN - The task team for the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) African National Congress (ANC) says it’s been given three to six months to rebuild the party in the province and regain lost support.
The task team’s priority is regaining the numbers the party lost during the 2021 local polls and the 2024 general polls.
In last year’s general election, the ANC lost its majority, receiving only 17% of the votes.
However, the newly appointed convenor Jeff Radebe said the PTT is tasked to change this.
“The NEC has outlined three main tasks for the next three to six months and that is to rebuild and renew the ANC and reconnect the movement with all sectors of society in every community across the length and breadth of KZN.”
He added that plans to regain municipalities in next year’s local elections will soon get underway.
“We are going to be preparing for the 2026 local government elections right away.”
The ANC Provincial Task Team (PTT) has also resolved to oversee the work of its deployees in government, citing service delivery concerns.
The PTT said the loss of power in the province in the previous election is a direct cry for service delivery from the people.
Radebe said the PTT made this resolution.
“We, particularly this collective, will be overseeing the work of all ANC cadres who are deployed in the Provincial Government of Unity (GPU) and all municipalities to ensure effective service delivery.”
