DURBAN - The case of alleged July unrest instigator Bonginkosi Khanyile has been postponed to next week, for a pre-trial hearing.
Khanyile, who is charged with incitement to public violence linked to the July 2021 unrest, returned to the Durban Magistrates Court on Thursday.
His trial was set to start on Thursday.
Thursday’s proceedings were very brief in the case of the accused instigator.
The former Fees Must Fall Activist is facing charges linked to the unrest which resulted in widespread looting back in 2021.
The trial could not proceed as Khanyile made changes to his legal team.
However, he maintains he is ready to go to trial.
“There’s nowhere where I burnt a building or looting, there’s nowhere they found anything of me, there’s nowhere but I am here as a looter.”
The matter returns to court on 13 March.
