DURBAN - Action SA in KwaZulu-Natal is calling for accountability over the alleged mismanagement of funds and non-payment issues at some of the Health Department's facilities.
The party conducted an oversight visit at the Phoenix mortuary in the north of Durban earlier on Thursday.
Its provincial chairperson Zwakele Mncwango said work at the facilities has been delayed by this.

Mncwango says he has written to the department in this regard.
“We have actually written to the Health MEC raising our concerns about the mismanagement of funds in the province that have actually led to the healthcare system collapsing in the province.”
He said this was causing a crisis for employees in some facilities.
“Right now there is a situation in our mortuaries where the refrigeration is not functioning which is leading to bodies decomposing in these facilities.”
When asked about this, the department said it's not yet able to comment on the matter.
