CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it remains opposed to the African National Congress (ANC)’s “divisive, race-based policies” following its week-long visit to the United States of America.

Representatives from the second largest party in the Government of National Unity (GNU) were in Washington to discuss issues affecting both countries.

The relationship between Pretoria and Washington has been strained following the baseless accusation by President Donald Trump that the South African government arbitrarily was seizing land from white, Afrikaans people.

DA spokesperson on International Relations, Emma Powell said the party remains an advocate of the country’s national interests in the international stage.

“It was clear from discussions that much work must be done in order to rebuild bilateral trust. The DA has consistently called for a comprehensive reform of South Africa’s foreign policy agenda and the consistent application of our policy of non-alignment in advancing our national interest. The DA remains resolute in opposing the ANC’s divisive, race-based policies, and advocating for a means-based approach to addressing systemic inequality.”
