CAPE TOWN - Six police officers attached to the Khayelitsha detective service have been arrested for fraud and defeating the administration of justice.

They are accused of submitting fraudulently financial claims for travelling allowance to the tune of R16,000.

It's alleged that the detectives, who travelled to the Eastern Cape for investigation between January and September 2022, would pay for accommodation and then request a receipt with a higher amount as paid.

Police say the members would also share a room but request two separate receipts.

Western Cape police spokesperson FC van Wyk says the suspects will appear at the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Thursday.

"After a thorough investigation by the Anti-Corruption Unit, the docket was presented to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) who decided to charge the members on 26 counts of fraud and one count of defeating the administration of justice."
