Plans underway to relook at the unfinished highway on Cape Town's foreshore - Roberto Quintas, CoCT

"It's very early days to say what the bridge is going to look like, we have some ideas of options, but we'll take that to the public in due course." Roberto Quintas, City of Cape Town.

Plans underway to relook at the unfinished highway on Cape Town's foreshore - Roberto Quintas, CoCT

CapeTalk's Lester Kiewit speaks to Councillor Roberto Quintas, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility at the City of Cape Town, to discuss whether there are any plans for the foreshore’s unfinished highway.

Cape Town is the ninth most traffic-congested city, according to the 2024 INRIX Global Traffic Scorecard.

Because of this, many have asked, why not fix the unfinished highway on the foreshore in the CBD?

"There are plans" to relook at it, says Quintas.

"I have tabled plans with the executive mayor at the very beginning of this term of administration," he explains.

A solution would be the most achievable and feasible option, adds Quintas.

"We've started significant modelling work on various options and proposals... we're hoping to go through some sort of public participation and consultation in the early half of the year still but there are quite a lot of moving parts to this. It's not simply an urban mobility or transport related decision, there are specific land-use questions that come with the various proposals so it is a work-in-progress between multiple departments with oversight from myself, the mayor and City manager."
