JOHANNESBURG - More than 90 families in Klipvoor Village, North West, have been stranded for three weeks now following devastating floods.

The Moretele River’s strong currents have completely submerged the only bridge connecting the village to the outside world.

With heavy rains expected to persist, hopes for relief are fading.

Located about an hour from Brits, residents in Klipvoor have grown accustomed to delays in emergency response, disrupted bus services, and relentless flooding.

Attempts by Eyewitness News to reach North West EMS were unsuccessful multiple calls went unanswered.

Meanwhile, stranded residents say they’ve lost all hope.

“Maybe the government is waiting for people to die first. The South African government always reacts late. Another issue is ambulances—there are a lot of snakes here. This place is a hub for them. And if you call an ambulance, do you know how long it takes to get to you? Six hours.”

In response, city officials have arrived in the village, attempting to rebuild the bridge.
