Discovery’s Safe Journey to School Initiative with Afrika Tikkun is prioritising child safety, ensuring that everyone gets to school safely.
“Road safety for scholars remains a major concern for South Africa… Our country has one of the highest road fatality rates in the world… a significant portion of these fatalities involve pedestrians and children.”
– Andronica Mabuya, Head of Corporate Social Investment – Discovery
The initiative works with transport drivers to monitor, educate and reward safe driving.
Since its inception in 2013, the programme has over 750 drivers signed up, transporting more than 24,000 learners daily across the Western Cape and Gauteng.
“Most of these road accidents are not just random events but rather the result of human choices and behaviour, it’s about reckless driving, poor judgement and also avoidable risk.”
– Andronica Mabuya, Head of Corporate Social Investment – Discovery
