JOHANNESBURG - Minority lobby groups AfriForum and Solidarity said they will not lose any sleep over allegations they have committed acts of high treason.
On Monday, Hawks head Godfrey Lebeya revealed they were investigating four dockets of high treason against organisations who approached the United States (US) government for assistance in taking President Cyril Ramaphosa and the African National Congress (ANC) to task.

AfriForum and Solidarity have intensified their calls for President Donald Trump’s administration to intervene in what they’ve described as threats to Afrikaans culture after the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) and Expropriation acts were implemented.
Speaking to EWN from the US, CEO of AfriForum Kallie Kriel said that the allegations of high treason against the minority lobby group are baseless.
“A court case would also provide a platform for AfriForum to show that the people that are really disloyal to their country and its people are ANC leaders through their irresponsible policies and their corruption.”
Also speaking from the US, the CEO of Solidarity, Dr Dirk Hermann, said it is a low point when the legal system is abused for political purposes.
“If you have no argument and then run to the police with a high treason charge and then the Hawks make public statements which are completely baseless, it is a low point.”
The Hawks did not directly say they are investigating AfriForum and Solidarity, as they have yet to be formally charged.
