JOHANNESBURG - The Johan Heyns Community Health Center in Emfuleni Local Municipality, Gauteng, will be converted into a district hospital.
Gauteng’s Health Department says renovations are set to begin on Monday and will continue until 2028.
Department spokesperson Motalatale Modiba says the center serves not only the local municipality but also areas in the Free State.
He adds that this project aims to address the growing demand for services in surrounding areas.
“This is to respond to the growing needs of the community where the facility is located, in the local municipality. The facility currently services between 8,000 patients per month, including patients from nearby informal settlements located from provinces like Free State who come to Johan Heyns because from a proximity point of view, it's quite close to them.’
