JOHANNESBURG -Since June last year, more than 120 people suspected of damaging or stealing electrical infrastructure in Johannesburg have been arrested.
City Power says some of those arrested are employees of the utility.
The entity reflected on the recent increase in infrastructure vandalism, particularly in its underground tunnels in the city’s CBD.
It warned that those behind the alleged damage and cable theft also pose a risk to staff tasked with repairing the infrastructure.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says they are working with communities, policing forums, and police to continue apprehending the culprits.
“So we've arrested a lot of those because of some of the measures that we've put in place in terms of our security to ensure that we have not only the boots on the ground but also technology but also intelligence internally and externally and that is really encouraging for us.”
