JOHANNESBURG - Namibia's former president, Sam Nujoma, will be laid to rest on Saturday in Heroes' Acre in the capital, Windhoek.
The founding father of liberated Namibia died in February in hospital at the age of 95.
President Nangolo Mbumba declared Saturday a public holiday in honour of the nation's hero.
Several African heads of state and delegates are in Namibia's capital to bid their final respects to Nujoma.
President Cyril Ramaphosa and former President Thabo Mbeki are in attendance to honour the life of the man who fought tirelessly against South Africa’s racist apartheid government.
Nujoma, who is fondly known as the founding father, passed away after an illness.
He was born to poor farmers from the Ovambo tribe and later became hailed as the man who spearheaded Namibia to its independence in 1990.
Thousands of Namibians have gathered to pay their final respects to their former president.
