CAPE TOWN - The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) has confirmed that it has closed its student accommodation process.

It said all students who qualified have been placed in campus-appointed residences.

At least 80 students were still waiting to be placed this past week.

Last week Tuesday, Minister of Higher Education Nobuhle Nkabane visited the CPUT District Six campus and met with the university management.

While there, she offered to place some students with temporary accommodation and gave CPUT management five days to resolve the issue.

CPUT spokesperson Lauren Kansley said they have placed all registered, eligible students earlier than the deadline given by the minister.

“It is important to note that only eligible students have been placed into residences. The status of those who have been declined will not change. They have been informed of such, and they have been notified to seek alternative accommodation”

Kansley added that the residence appeals process has also ended and that they are still seeking to place certain students in permanent residences.
