JOHANNESBURG - The US government has appointed David Greene to take over the soon-to-be-vacant Charge d'affaires position at its mission in Pretoria following the resignation of Dana Brown.
Greene, who currently serves as the deputy chief at the US Embassy in Nigeria, will assume the role at its mission in Pretoria once Brown completes her notice period.

Brown has been acting as the US’s ambassador to South Africa since the resignation of Ruben Brigety in November last year.
The US Mission confirmed earlier on Friday that dana brown is retiring after over 27 years of service as an international diplomat for the US Government.
The embassy says it has flourished under her leadership and praised her for dedicating her life to serving as a foreign service official.
Her resignation comes at a time when diplomatic relations between the United States and South Africa are facing difficulties, particularly since Donald Trump was re-elected to the country’s highest office.
There are growing questions about whether her decision to resign is connected to Trump's return and the subsequent diplomatic challenges.
Brown is set to serve her last month in Pretoria – before heading back to the US “to spend more time with her family”.
