JOHANNESBURG - South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe has donated R10 million to the African National Congress (ANC).
This is contained in the third quarterly report for political donations published by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).
Since the Political Party Funding Act came into law in April 2018, parties are required to disclose any donations they receive above R100,000 to the IEC.
With the election period over, donations to political parties have slowed down.
For this quarter, which covers the period between 1 October and 31 December 2024, only four parties made disclosures totalling R18.3 million.
The biggest donor was Botho Botho Commercial Enterprise which gave the ANC R10 million. The sole director of the company is Patrice Motsepe, a regular benefactor of the ANC.
The ANC reported about R13 million rand this quarter, with R2 million coming from its investment wing company, Chancellor House and R1 million from the Education and Training Unit.
