CAPE TOWN -The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) says it’s placed all eligible students into accommodation.

This comes after groups of students gathered at the institution’s District Six campus recently requesting accommodation.

Earlier this week Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane visited the campus to assess the situation.

She gave CPUT five days to resolve the accommodation issues.

CPUT Spokesperson Lauren Kansley says they’ve made swift and positive progress when resolving the matter.

“The Cape Peninsula University of Technology has placed all eligible students into residence or temporary accommodation. This happened By Wednesday evening (26 February) all students were successfully transported to their allocated accommodation sites, and no students are remaining in the District Six Student Centre”

Kansley adds that the institution used various methods to ensure that students are housed.

“CPUT was able to meet the demand for accommodation through a number of ways including; by moving students into post-graduate residences, expediting the maintenance projects of our own university owned and operated residences and by placing some in temporary accommodation as they await permanent placement.”
