CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town has secured R2.8 billion from the German Development Bank for major electricity upgrades.

The city said the agreement with the German government forms part of its planned transition to decentralised energy.

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said, "The city is investing over R4 billion in electricity grid upgrades and maintenance over the next three years to beat power outages, diversify supply, ensure reliable electricity for a growing city, and enable thousands of small-scale sellers to move electricity across our grid."
