JOHANNESBURG - A few city officials in Johannesburg are having to account to the Mayor Dada Morero for their lack of performance in the city.
On Friday, Morero was in the inner city of Johannesburg in efforts to address service delivery issues.
Morero said their main focus on Friday was on taxi ranks and small business compliance with bylaws.
Numerous business owners were asked to present their permits as officials checked on compliance with the city's laws
Morero noted that some government departments had not done their due diligence in ensuring citizens uphold laws.
“We're a bit disappointed with the JMPD [Johannesburg Metro Police Department] in terms of bylaw enforcement. Something that we are going to take it up with the chief of police because there are people who are trading outside of the rank who are now taking business away from those who are inside.”
Morero added they would make sure that traders operating in the area, all have permits and are compliant.
