The fire in Newlands Ravine, which spread to the front face of the mountain in Table Mountain National Park, has been contained in several areas, including some that were previously inaccessible to firefighters.
The blaze, which began on Sunday morning, saw immediate firefighting efforts, followed by aerial support at dawn.
On Tuesday night, strong winds caused the fire to flare up again.
By this morning, however, the fire in Newlands Ravine and along the front face of Table Mountain had been successfully suppressed.
The Redhill fire, which started later on Sunday, was initially contained by yesterday afternoon, but flare-ups occurred afterward, leading to three new fires.
While these have since been contained, firefighting efforts are still underway.
Table Mountain National Park has provided the following updates:
- Platteklip Gorge and Kloof Corner trails are now open to the public.
- Maclear’s Beacon and Devils Peak to Newlands section remain closed.
- Tafelberg Road is closed from Platteklip parking towards Devils Peak.
