Lamontville flood victims to be moved to community shelters

DURBAN - Lamontville flood victims in Durban will on Thursday be moved to community shelters following damage to their homes caused by heavy rains recently.
Five people died after being swept away by floods at the informal settlement in the south of Durban.
Last week, six other people died when their homes collapsed, also from excessive downpours.
Inclement weather conditions have left a trail of destruction in parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

And for the second time in less than a week, the eThekwini Metro was hit hard by the severe rain and floods, which claimed the lives of three children and two elderly women.
Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said the department would be assisting with temporary shelter.
"Ordinarily COGTA is always leading this process, human settlements must just come to ensure that we give temporary measures of coming with infrastructure."
Disaster management teams are continuing with mop-up operations in the affected areas.
