JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Ekurhuleni is confident that its councillor Nthabiseng Tshivhenga will retain her position as Speaker of council.
Tshivhenga is on Thursday facing a no-confidence vote tabled by the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and supported by several opposition parties.
The parties claims she is incompetent and have described her as one of the most chaotic council Speakers in recent years.
EFF Gauteng chairperson, Nkululeko Dunga, said the party would defend its Speaker.
"The EFF will retain its position of Speaker in Ekurhuleni, we have no doubt. If council comes to a different conclusion, it would have not been because of competence. It would just be politics at play, particularly because the IFP would most likely want to introduce the GNU or a coalition with the DA in the City of Ekurhuleni."
