CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town said that its hotspot enforcement pilot project could be used as a blueprint to curb crime in the future.

City Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, said that hotspot-policing initiatives were being implemented by deploying law enforcement officers in hotpots using crime data analysis obtained from SAPS.

Smith said that a collaboration with all enforcement agencies and civil society structures could make an impact in the province's most vulnerable communities.

"This intelligence-driven approach ensures that staff are spending more time in carefully defined crime hotspots based on data analysis, ensuring that our limited resources have maximum impact. This pilot and its evidently positive results can act as the blueprint for future deployment."
