JOHANNESBURG - The case against an Eldorado Park police officer accused of murdering his crime warden girlfriend has been postponed to March.

Mandla Buthelezi is charged with killing 22-year-old Gauteng crime warden, Chesnay Keppler, after a domestic dispute on Boxing Day in 2024.

Police allege that after the attack, the 42-year-old man shot himself in a failed suicide attempt and was hospitalised.

He made his first court appearance in January.

He was expected to appear via video link. However, an unexpected power cut left the court inaccessible, resulting in a postponement to 27 March.

Although the case has not yet reached the bail or investigation stage, Keppler’s lawyer said Buthelezi would not be applying for bail.

"There isn’t a bail application from him at the moment. There are only a few outstanding issues regarding the investigation."

Meanwhile, Keppler’s father, Trevor Keppler, said he was disappointed that Buthelezi was set to appear virtually.

"I’m just disappointed that he has to appear on a TV whilst my daughter is no longer."
