JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) has roped in former Johannesburg mayor Amos Masondo to lead the party's structure in Gauteng after its poor performance at last year's polls.
Masondo has been appointed convenor of the newly-appointed Provincial Task Team (PTT) which has replaced its Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).

ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula announced leadership changes to the party’s provincial structure in Midrand on Wednesday.

Former ANC Chairperson in Gauteng Panyaza Lesufi will share the top seat with Masondo as he has been appointed as the co-convenor of the PTT.
Both Lesufi and Masondo will be at the helm of the ANC in the province - in hopes of addressing the party's losses during last year's elections.
The party’s former secretary in Gauteng Hope Papo has returned as provincial coordinator.
Mbalula said its reconfigured Gauteng leadership must work towards recovering lost ground.
"Preparations for the 2026 local government elections will be a key focus with the objective of recovering lost ground and ensuring the ANC remains at the centre of government."
On Tuesday, the party also announced changes to its KwaZulu-Natal leadership.
