JOHANNESBURG - Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has rubbished claims suggesting the recent heavy rains plunged the country into darkness.
In the last few days, the country has experienced stages four to six of load shedding after months of a reprieve.
Parts of the country faced continuous rainfall last week, which affected Eskom's ability to keep the lights on in the past.

Ramokgopa said this time load shedding was solely due to the failure of units at the Majuba power station.
"It's important that we don’t manufacture reasons that justify it [load shedding]. We just share with you when the facts are and the facts are exactly what happened at Majoba. So if Majuba was up, whether we had intermittent rain or not, we would have been fine. I’m not blaming it on the weather. I'm blaming it on those failures there and we know what the cause of the failure is."
