JOHANNESBURG - MMC for Human Settlements in Johannesburg, Mlungisi Mabaso, is set to hold a public engagement in Soweto on Tuesday, to address housing issues.
The department is also expected to give an update on housing developments it has undertaken.
The housing backlog in Johannesburg stands at over 400,000.
In January, a community-based group, National Social Ills, marched to the office of the provincial department of human settlements.
The group was promised a formal meeting with the department.
The protestors primarily complained of waiting decades for RDP houses.
This is part of what the human settlements department is expected to address on Tuesday.
Human settlements spokesperson, Penwell Dlamini, said they would be joined by provincial staff and other officials.
"We will be having JOSHCO [Johannesburg Social Housing Company], province, our allocation department who will give details on how the allocation process takes place we will even bring in the city’s group forensics allocation."
He said they would also advise the public on how to report corrupt housing officials.
A community based group, the National Social Ills, is protesting ahead of the MMC’s address.
