DURBAN - The African National Congress (ANC) has appointed a new provincial task team (PTT) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) following the reconfiguration of the party’s provincial executive committee last week.

The committee was dismantled over failures at the 2024 general polls.

The ANC in the province lost its majority in the elections , clinching only 17% of the votes.

Newly appointed officials include ANC veteran Jeff Radebe and senior party leaders Weziwe Thusi and Mike Mabuyakhulu.

Since the provincial leadership elected by conference in July 2022 was disbanded and reconfigured, the national working committee brought in experienced senior leaders to assist in the affairs of the ANC in the province.

Former provincial chairperson Siboniso Duma and his deputy Nomagugu Simelane-Mngadi have been co-opted to form part of the PTT.

“The provincial task team is established as the interim structure to oversee the stabilisation of the organisation, drive political organisation and work towards the revitalisation of ANC structures across the province.”

Mbalula added that the PTT has a mammoth task to regain lost ground in KZN.

-UP TO THE TASK-

The newly-appointed ANC provincial structure said it's up to the task and will deliver good outcomes for the province.

Mabuyakhulu has assured the party's National Working Committee that those appointed are equal to the task.

"We understand our marching orders, we understand our task and we are all entrusted in taking this responsibility. We understand the nature of the task and have no illusion about the critical importance of this task but we are also equally ready to execute the task to the best of our abilities."
