JOHANNESBURG - The man arrested in connection with the torture of patrons at the Zanzou nightclub in Hatfield is set to make his first appearance in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

The 41-year-old Congolese national was arrested last week for his alleged involvement in the sexual and physical assault of a group of young men.

This as Zanzou last week made headlines after its bouncers were seen on viral footage torturing the patrons.

The suspect, who was arrested in Yeoville on Thursday faces charges of compelled rape, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and crimen injuria.

He was apprehended by Johannesburg metro police officers during a routine patrol in the area after they recognised him from viral videos.

He is one of eight suspects on the police's wanted list, but he is currently the only one located and arrested.

While it has been a week since the nightclub was exposed, more videos have emerged showing other patrons being assaulted in separate incidents.

Nevertheless, police are confident that the remaining suspects will be nabbed and will face the full might of the law.
