JOHANNESBURG - Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Land Reform and Rural Development is in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday afternoon to assess the state of governance at the Ingonyama Trust board.
This follows several reported challenges facing the board including irregular change of leadership.
The board administers almost 3 million hectares of land in KwaZulu-Natal.
Zulu monarch King MisuZulu is the sole trustee of the board which generates millions in revenue through leases.
Zulu King MisuZulu’s changes to the Ingonyama Trust board have prompted attention from parliament.

Last year, the Zulu monarch suspended some board members including the longest-serving chairperson former Judge Jerome Ngenywa.
Two weeks ago, parliament said the Zulu King acted unlawfully when he decided to appoint himself as chairperson of the board.
Parliament’s legal advisor has told the land and rural reform committee that only the minister has exclusive authority to act on the board.
Meanwhile, the King claims that there are attempts to destabilise the board.
The committee will this afternoon meet the Zulu King at Kwakhangelamankengane Royal Palace on the issue.
