JOHANNESBURG - Ahead of the Gauteng State of the Province Address (SOPA) on Monday evening - some opposition parties want Premier Panyaza Lesufi to move away from making what they’ve described as empty populist promises and go back to basics.

Lesufi will deliver the first SOPA of the seventh provincial administration where he is set to outline his government’s five-year plan.

The SOPA will take place at the recently launched Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone in Pretoria.

Since assuming office in 2022 Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has made a number of promises; some of which he’s kept, others not.

Some of the promises yet to materialise are the 800-megawatt solar farm and the state-owned bank and pharmaceutical company.

His promise to create jobs has materialised through the Nasi Ispani programme.

However Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga said the Nasi Ispani programme is unsustainable with the current fiscal constraints.

BOSA Gauteng leader Ayanda Allie said residents deserve more than hot air from the Premier this time around.

“He will do one of 3 things, tell lies, give illusions and offer false promises. Now if he was being honest, you would know because you live in Gauteng and that all is not well in this economic hub.”
