JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have sent messages of condolences to former Speaker of the National Assembly, Thandi Modise and her family on the passing of her daughter Tsholofelo Mandisa Modise.

Both parties have called on society to offer the family support and solidarity.

Modise gave birth to Tsholofelo in 1980 while incarcerated during the struggle for South Africa’s liberation, with officials attempting to force the struggle veteran to give her child up for adoption.

On Sunday, the ANC’s secretary general, Fikile Mbalula, visited the family to pay his respects.

The party’s national spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri said, “Her birth under such conditions symbolised the pain, sacrifice, and resilience of those who fought for South Africa’s freedom.

“Despite this, comrade Tsholo grew to become a selfless and committed young leader within our organisation.”
