Tshwane EFF says it will monitor relocation process of residents into Pienaarspoort housing project
The project, spearheaded by the Department of Human Settlements in the capital, aims to relocate residents from informal settlements to formal housing.
JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the City of Tshwane has announced it will be monitoring the relocation process of residents into the Pienaarspoort housing project in Mamelodi East on Monday.
The project, spearheaded by the Department of Human Settlements in the capital, aims to relocate residents from informal settlements to formal housing.
For residents in the Phomolong informal settlements in Mamelodi, the relocation process into formal housing began in December.
The City of Tshwane is set to relocate more residents from other informal settlements into the Pienaarspoort housing project, which is designed to accommodate 5,000 households.
However, the EFF has received allegations that some residents awaiting relocation have not received their houses.
Tshwane EFF leader, Bongani Ramontja, claimed that this was due to some of the houses allegedly being sold.
"No one will be allowed to enter the relocation site in Pienaarspoort Extension 15 if they are not the rightful beneficiaries. The Economic Freedom Fighters sub-region 5 will ensure that only those who are genuinely entitled to relocation will be allowed to occupy the site."
Ramontja said the EFF wanted to expose the corruption behind government housing projects.
