JOHANNESBURG - Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said that the quickest way to end load shedding was to ensure that Eskom functioned effectively.

Ramokgopa addressed the media in Pretoria on Sunday on the recent power outages.

Earlier on Sunday, Eskom announced stage six load shedding due to multiple unit failures at the Camden power station in Mpumalanga.

Minister Ramokgopa said that Eskom developed the generation recovery plan in March 2023 set to address the country's energy crisis.

The plan focused on repairing and maintaining major power stations.

As a result, Eskom was able to see the suspension of load shedding for 300 days, marked in January.

However, Ramokgopa said that on 1 February, unit failures at the Majuba power station resulted in the return of load shedding.

"So the quickest part out of load shedding is to ensure that we get Eskom right. On the part of Eskom, what did the board do led by Dr Mthethwa was to adopt the generation recovery plan on March 2023. That generation recovery plan plays front and centre of ensuring that we are able to invest resources in planned maintenance."

The minister said that Eskom was working hard to eliminate load shedding entirely.
