CAPE TOWN - Shelters and centres of safety that rely on government funding say they have been left unsure of how to handle their future financial decisions.
The postponed Budget Speech gave a glimpse of a potential VAT increase from 15% to 17% and what that could mean for the country.
KwaZulu-Natal representative, Nadia Munsamy, for the National Shelter Movement of South Africa (NSMSA), shared what a VAT increase could mean for shelters and the important work they do.
"The proposed 2% VAT increase will affect shelters negatively as running costs will increase. Shelters are expected by DSD to provide nutritious meals daily and make the stay of survivors and their children as comfortable as possible."
