CAPE TOWN - Eskom has escalated load shedding to stage six.
This move was announced just after 1am on Sunday morning.
The utility said that the move was needed after multiple units tripped at the Camden power station.
It comes after stage three kicked into action late on Saturday, which was a response to multiple units tripping at Majuba as well as another unit at Medupi. This led to a loss of 3,864MW in capacity, while planned maintenance accounted for 7,506MW.
Stage six was activated to replenish emergency reserves for the week ahead.
Eskom said that stage six would continue until further notice and a media briefing on the power system is scheduled for 11am on Sunday morning.
