Death toll related to KZN's inclement weather rises to 9

DURBAN - The death toll from the recent inclement weather conditions in KwaZulu-Natal has now risen to nine.
The cooperative governance department has confirmed that two more bodies have been recovered in Ugu, on the South Coast.
Earlier this week, heavy rains battered the province, destroying numerous homes, with the eThekwini district being the hardest hit.
KZN COGTA spokesperson, Sezelwe Mzila: "Disaster management teams continue to respond to the incidents that have occurred in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The fatalities have increased with two deaths recorded in the area of KwaQololoqo in the Umzumbe Local Municipality under the Ugu district. It is believed that two men were swept away while trying to cross a river in the area."
Mzila said that the MEC would visit the affected areas in eThekwini on Monday.
"The MEC on Monday will lead mop-up operations within areas that have been affected in the eThekwini Metro."
More severe rains are expected to hit the province on Saturday.
