JOHANNESBURG - The City of Joburg is investigating a multi-million rand corruption case involving the alleged irregular awarding of a water tanker tender.

In December, reports emerged suggesting that two unqualified companies scored a R263 million contract to supply the city with tankers for the next three years.

It is alleged that the bidding process for the tenders was irregular, as the companies did not meet all the criteria.

Joburg Mayor Dada Morero said that the city was looking into allegations suggesting the tender should not have been awarded to the two companies.

"I wish to also indicate that my office has engaged Johannesburg Water management about the reported alleged corruption related to the R263 million water tanker tender case. The case is currently before our courts and our internal auditors are conducting an investigation."
