Political parties in Joburg support motion to install CCTV cameras in public spaces

JOHANNESBURG - Political parties in the City of Johannesburg are in support of the motion to install CCTV cameras in public spaces across the metro.
A council meeting is debating the installation, operation and monitoring of CCTV footage for public safety.
If approved, the CCTV by-law will allow government to access private CCTV footage when the need arises.

Johannesburg United Democratic Movement Councillor said Johannesburg needs solutions to address crime.
"We cannot allow Johannesburg to become a city where councillors are murdered in cold blood while we stand by and do nothing. If we have the political will to regulate CCTV for public safety, then let us also have the courage to protect those who serve in public office."
