CAPE TOWN - Former Western Cape crime intelligence general Mzwandile Tiyo has filed a complaint against Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament (MP) Ian Cameron before Parliament.
Tiyo accuses Cameron of harbouring a personal vendetta against him and using his position and influence within the national legislature to victimise and defame him.
In his complaint, the axed general cites a number of social media posts made by Cameron against him.
In an affidavit, Tiyo accuses police portfolio committee chairperson Ian Cameron of violating the code of ethical conduct and disclosure of members' interests.
In 2024, Tiyo’s lawyers served Cameron with a letter of demand to stop making defamatory statements against Tiyo after he claimed that Tiyo’s service pistol and laptop were stolen after he went into a tavern in Western Cape.
While Cameron heeded the warning, he allegedly continued with the posts after the May 2024 elections, when he was appointed as chair of the police committee.
Tiyo also said Cameron failed to recuse himself when the former general’s matter was discussed in the oversight body, revealing a conflict of interest on Cameron’s part.
Parliament has responded to the complaint, saying it has been processed and is receiving the necessary attention.
