JOHANNESBURG - Porous drainage systems have worsened the impact of relentless downpours in Hammanskraal, leaving dozens of homes flooded.
Torrential rains have battered northern parts of Gauteng, making roads inaccessible and forcing families from their homes.
Earlier this week, a tornado tore through parts of Tshwane, displacing over 15 families and leaving a trail of destruction across homes and businesses.
In response, city emergency officials issued an orange level 6 warning for ongoing disruptive rain, urging residents to stay alert.

In Hammanskraal, knee-high floodwaters are nothing new.
With buckets in hand, residents are once again scooping water from their homes, trying to salvage what they can.
The South African weather service predicted the rain would ease up later in the week, but with heavy clouds still hanging and showers persisting, that forecast seems increasingly unlikely.
Residents with buckets in hand are now scooping out knee-high water from their homes, salvaging what they can.
