City Power receives over 1,500 outage calls following heavy rains

JOHANNESBURG - City Power says it has received over 1,500 calls for voltage outages across multiple substations in the metro.
Customers plunged into darkness as a result of recent inclement weather has logged almost 2,000 queries.
The entity says its teams are working around the clock to restore power to affected areas.
Some of the impacted substations include Braamfontein, Central, Orchards, and Observatory.

It adds that repairs to the substations took longer than expected due to the heavy rain, which hindered testing.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said restoration efforts are underway.
“Working with the flooded tunnels has been extremely challenging, as our teams are unable to carry out the necessary repairs under such conditions. We are now working on rerouting some of the cables in an effort to fast track the restoration efforts in the area so we will be using backfeeding methods and other ways to ensure that the customers have got power.”
