CAPE TOWN - The two alleged gunmen charged for the murder of controversial Cape Town businessman Mark Lifman are due back in George Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Lifman was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Garden Route Mall in George in November 2024.

At the time, Lifman was on trial along with alleged underworld figures Jerome "Donkie" Booysen and Andre Naude for the murder of "Steroid King" Brian Wainstein.

Johan Hendrik Jacobs and Gert Bezuidenhout were arrested shortly after Lifman was shot dead.

When the pair last appeared in court, they were denied bail.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has indicated the State has a compelling case against the alleged hitmen.

The court found that it was not in the interest of justice to release Jacobs and Bezuidenhout on bail.

Investigators have since been analysing phone records and other data to bolster the State's case.
