Severe weather warning for Gauteng as heavy rains wreak havoc

JOHANNESBURG - The South African Weather Service has issued an orange level 6 warning for disruptive rainfall and thundershowers in Gauteng.
The weather service expects these conditions to continue until Friday.

Meanwhile, the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) department in the province has warned residents of possible flooding and damage caused by the downpours.
"We are experiencing flooding on roads, infrastructure, but we're also seeing falling trees. And in the city of Swinburne and City of Johannesburg specifically, we've seen these cases. So we are calling for all our residents to be cautious as they are traveling and make sure that especially when they are crossing low-lying areas and low bridges, that they do not cross where there's waterlogged bridges,” said Gauteng Cogta spokesperson Theo Nkonki.
