Postbank, SASSA working to clear backlog of 2.4 million grant beneficiaries still needing card upgrade

CAPE TOWN - Postbank and the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) are working to clear the backlog of about 2.4 million grant beneficiaries who still need to upgrade their cards.
Postbank said it had only managed to replace 550,000 of the 2.9 million SASSA gold cards so far.

The two agencies briefed Parliament on Tuesday regarding the card replacement project.
The deadline for the card transition has been moved to 20 March to accommodate all beneficiaries.
SASSA's acting CEO Themba Matlou said plans were put in place to deal with long queues.
"We have already spoken to many community members and traditional leadership in making sure that we do have community halls and all other facilities that will assist us in addressing the issues of dignity services."
