JOHANNESBURG - Minister of Higher Education Nobuhle Nkabane said thta she would ensure that the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) mandate was fulfilled through its newly elected board. 

On Tuesday, she announced the new NSFAS board, with Dr Karen Strander, a senior business management lecturer at the University of South Africa (UNISA), at the helm.

The previous board was dissolved in 2024 after NSFAS was placed under administration.

"These appointments mark a significant step in strengthening NSFAS as an institution that upholds integrity," said the ministry's spokesperson, Camagwini Mavovana.

"The minister remains committed to ensuring that NSFAS fulfils its mandate of making higher education more accessible to South Africans."
