JOHANNESBURG - The wife of slain Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officer, Banele Sikhosana, remains behind bars as a suspect in the murder case, which is set to return to court later this week.

Thirty-two-year-old Sikhosana was murdered outside a tuckshop in KwaThemba, east of Johannesburg, in February.

The prosecution alleges his wife hired a hitman to kill her husband.

The matter was postponed on Monday for a formal bail application on Friday.

"Before the killing of Sikhosana, it is alleged that Dhlamini hired her co-accused to kill her husband," said National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana.

"After investigations by the police, Mangwenyana was arrested. A few days later, Dhlamini was arrested on the 14th of February 2025."
