JOHANNESBURG - Operations at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria have been temporarily suspended due to a power outage.

This after the court's generator also failed to kick in.

Tshwane officials have not confirmed the cause of the outage but heavy rains and flooding have affected various parts of the capital.

The Office of the Chief Justice has confirmed the disruption to operations at the court on Tuesday.

In a statement, the office said the court’s generator is also out of commission, affecting the superior court’s ability to continue operations.

It's not yet clear what led to the blackout, but alternative arrangements will be made for all matters scheduled on the court roll on Tuesday.

Photos on social media platform, X, show legal practitioners stationed outside the superior court shielding themselves from the rain.

Just last week, the busiest court in the country, the high court in Johannesburg was closed due to water shortages in the greater Johannesburg area.
