CAPE TOWN - Alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack has denied instructing one of the co-accused to plan attacks on slain top cop Charl Kinnear before his eventual murder.

Modack is continuing his testimony to answer for the 122 charges he faces related to allegedly operating a criminal empire.

Monday's proceedings centered around Modack's charges of conspiracy to commit murder, related to three botched attacks on Kinnear in 2019.

Modack told the court his dealings with co-accused Amaal Jantjies were purely related to legal matters.

He told the court he made various payments to Janjties while also helping her secure a BMW vehicle and two cellphones, saying he believed it was for legal work.

He said he stopped making contact with Jantjies after she failed to produce any successful outcomes, including a bail application for another co-accused her then-boyfriend, Yannick Adonis.

Jantjies previously told the court she planned to kill Kinnear in 2019 because Modack instructed her to do so.

Modack on Monday denied giving Jantjies any instructions to kill Kinnear.

Modack has continued to deny the charges against him by accusing some of his co-accused of lying during their testimonies.

Another co-accused, Zain Kilian recently testified he tracked the whereabouts of Kinnear on behalf of Modack before the lieutenant's murder.

Modack said both Jantjies and Kilian lied in their testimonies.

He also denied giving a self-confessed hitman who turned state witness instructions to perform certain hits on his behalf.

The trial continues.
