Bongani Bingwa interviews Tshepo Kgobe, CEO of Gautrain Management Agency.

Listen below:

Gautrain services were suspended over the weekend between Park and Rosebank stations due to a technical issue on the train line.

Kgobe confirms that drilling activity on private property above the tunnel caused a breach in the tunnel lining.

It’s understood that soil and water seeped into the transport system from a borehole dug above, disrupting the operating systems.

Kgobe says that the issue can be resolved quickly, but their priority is to ensure any solution implemented doesn’t negatively affect the surrounding water sources.

He remains optimistic that the situation will be resolved by the end of the week.

In the meantime, commuters travelling between Park and Rosebank stations will need to use buses, which will be running at 15-minute intervals.

"It's all about making sure that the engineering is sound, the safety is sound."
- Tshepo Kgobe, CEO – Gautrain Management Agency
