JOHANNESBURG - Former Miss South Africa contestant Chidimma Adetshina’s mother has been detained for her alleged illegal stay in South Africa.
Home Affairs officials, in conjunction with South African Police Service (SAPS) members, arrested Anabela Rungo at a property in Cape Town earlier on Saturday.
This followed the withdrawal of Rungo's South African documentation last September after it was discovered that it had been fraudulently obtained.
During Saturday’s operation, investigators from the Counter Corruption and Immigration Services also found Adetshina's underage child living with Rungo.
Home Affairs spokesperson Siya Qoza said their concern is also towards the underage child’s safety.
“Home Affairs is further liaising with the Department of Social Development and SAPS Child Protection Unit as it relates to protecting the interests of the underage child. The department will provide further updates at opportune moments.”
ACCUSED OF USING MOZAMBICAN PASSPORT TO STAY IN SA
Rungo has been accused of disregarding the law by using her Mozambican passport to stay in the country.
Qoza confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
“In an apparent act of brazen disregard for the legal consequences of her conduct, it appears that Ms Rungo has defied her ‘undesirable’ status through her Mozambican passport. Investigations are ongoing into further potential misrepresentation and fraudulent conduct.”
